knew by way of not getting a reply, not even a reply from PSD to explain that I’ve applied for a scholarship which I was not eligible for, not even an offer to do something else than medicine. Nothing, no communication at all.Read her blog to find out more about her experience and the impact of rejection on her. She also made an interesting note:
I bought a PSD form to apply for scholarships because my household income then was RM1,200... On the form, it was clearly printed that PSD scholarships to do medicine are only available to Bumiputera applicants.
Can anyone confirm that is actually true? That PSD scholarships to do medicine is clearly printed as only available to Bumiputera applicants? Or is it something of the 'past'? Hmmm...
I applied for a JPA scholarship 15 years ago. There was no "medicine for Bumis only" then on the forms. I dont know about now. But I was told outright during the interview that I would not get Medicine(my first choice), and told it would be better for me to change my choices there and then. Luckily for me, I was as pigheaded then as now, and I refused to alter my preferences. Months later , Lady Luck smiled on me and I was called for Medicine(JPA) in India. I believe it was partly due to no takers as we were given only 1 week notice to leave. Not that I am complaining now. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess things have slightly changed for the better compared to the mid-80s during my time. Non-bumis hardly thought about a post-SPM JPA scholarship at all.
ReplyDeleteForget about voicing your thoughts then; letters like this were never published in mainstream press and there were neither web, e-mail, blogs etc...
