During the forum on higher education held last evening (which I mistakenly posted on this blog as a "English Forum" thinking that it's a forum about the standards of English language, but instead it's actually a forum conducted in English!), a student, Jason (not his real name) from University Malaya Medical Centre gave a really hilarious anecdote of his experience.
During an orientation session conducted recently for the freshman medical students - i.e., the top students from matriculation with straight 'A's, Jason conducted a pop quiz for them.
Jason: Did anyone know one of our ministers shouted "Racist" repeatedly during a recent parliamentary session?
Freshman 1: Err... what is "racist"? Don't understand lah.
Jason: Racist also don't know - go ask your friends!
Freshman 1 to Freshman 2: Err... so what is "racist" ah?
Freshman 2: "Racist" also don't know! There, Michael Schumacher, Formula 1, "racist"-lah!
And of course, that brought the house down! :)
[Update] During the forum, I raised the issue of whether Universiti Malaya deserves it's 89th placing awarded by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES). For more details, read blog post entitled "Universiti Malaya: 89th or Nowhere (Part III)" and "Universiti Malaya: 6th Most International University?"
