Short post on the new UM VC

Short post from SK Thew, a former MMU student, on the new UM VC. Sounds positive.

To place the ex-VC of MMU on UM is kind of not suitable especially when MMU is a non-entity when it comes to ranking. Further, MMU is no different from UM when it comes to promoting Middle Eastern professors that may not stand a chance in their own turf.

I definitely agree with you. Just like UTAR, Prof Chuah also place his own people to do his 'command'.
I feel disappointed that Education in Malaysia still not yet reach his maturity like UK and US Education. Why i said this? Just look our Prof Chuah, Iron Man, hired his Fantastic Four people (you know who I mean). The reason is former UTAR staff, some of them do not agrre with his opinion. And our Iron man don;t like it and he want them to follow his order. That's why FES dean still durvuve now (Dr Wang Chan Chin is a YES MAN and guess what, He graduated from OSAKA University, Japan) Well you know Japanese culture. Just a YEs man only.
Very disappointed. Malaysia Education is just another political games.

UTAR is turning into just another IPTA. Very disappointed indeed. Led by a totally local bred VC, with a few years of post doc in US (I think). Although respected academically in Malaysia, just check his publication lists. His will have his Fantastic Fours as co-authors and vice versa. Staff from MMU with lesser teaching experience are given higher positions in UTAR as compared to existing staff who have many more years of experience in teaching. That's Iron Man's standard.

Correction: Chuah HT only have a few months post doc experience in US (March-Nov, 1994).
But you are right about the publication list. You can check out the info from the UTAR's website.

The Osaka Yes Man has very lousy presentation skill, cannot even chair a meeting properly.

Correction again: that is not post doc. that is sabbatical. The difference is, for post doc the university pay to hire you to conduct research and teach their students, for sabbatical you pay yourself to go hang around with that university for a few months. Post doc appointment is usually for 2 or more years.

Do not get your Honey where you get your money!

Notice that MMU is recently ranked. This makes the whole episode justifiable I guess.
