Congrats Prof Khalid!
Congrats to Prof Khalid Abdul Kadir for being the recipient of the first Merdeka award for Health, Science and Technology. Prof Khalid is the head of the Johor Baru Monash University Clinical School and his area of specialty is the treatment of diabetes. With so much depressing news of politicians seeking bogus PhDs and VCs having lousy CVs, it is good to read about a genuine academic who cares about his area of research. I don't know much about the research of diabetes but I do know that a simple google search reveals that Prof Khalid has quite a few publications in refereed journals. I'm guessing that Monash would not have made him the head of their clinical school in JB if he was a sub par academic.

I applaud his award. We need more recognitions for our local scientists. Little wonder why there's no research on malaysia-specific cases.
btw, "Dato Professor Dr Khalid Abdul Kadir was previously the Director of Hospital UKM, Kuala Lumpur, and is now the Dean of Medicine at Monash University Malaysia." Dr Khalid is a practicing doctor, who later on went to be an administrator...and now a dean of school of medicine. I guess it's better to have a good administrator being a dean. Not too sure about his research though....
A simple google search will give you this:
1) Two co-authors (he was the 6th and 7th author) of Journal of Diabetes and its Complication.
2) various malaysia-published publications.
3) first author on a "Alternative Medicine Review" magazine/journal.
This highlights the need for Prof Khalid to ensure his publications listed somewhere. Oh well, kian ming, you re more generous in giving credits.
As usual our KM is easily "rolled over" without understanding the details of "complexity" of a research paper and the significance of the first or the eight author
KM, reality bites!
Unless you're the first or the last author of a medical journal, the 4th or 5th author is pretty much equivalent to a company "Ali-Baba" chairman. Haha.
AdelaideRMO.
Sometimes I am so surprised by the fast conclusions made by KM over certain topics. As a person doing a PhD one must not hastily reached into conclusions without first doing in depth research into the phenomenon.
...unless this is part of Kian Ming's new-found (or newly made public) sarcastic side that is a welcome relief from but also somewhat jarring in juxtaposition to the usual 'very earnest' tone of this blog...
