Tok Pa for Minister for Higher Education

OK, one final note from the UMNO GA and we can move on. Since Khaled Nordin, the current Minister for Higher Education, failed to win one of the 3 VP positions and since there will be a cabinet reshuffle coming up soon, I'm going to publicly state my support for Tok Pa or Mustapha Mohamed, to be given back the cabinet position of Minister for Higher Education. I've always had more praise than criticism for Tok Pa during his time as Minister for Higher Education and I hope that his skills and intellect will once again be used to improve the state of our public and private universities and colleges in Malaysia.

Let me just give you a glimpse of Tok Pa's modest character.

During his term as the Higher Education Minister, he was invited to officiate a certain function in one of the polytechnic.

Of course the organisers have set up VIP area for him. After his speech and as everyone proceed to have tea break, the organiser as usual were starting to escort him to the VIP area. BUT Tok Pa refused to be treated as the VIP. He instead mingle among the students and staff and eat together with them at the non-VIP dining area. He insisted that he wanted to mingle with the staffs/students to hear their view so that the ministry can improve in any areas need improvement.

He even picked up his own chair to sit on instead of asking whoever to help him pick a chair for him to sit on. This is the true politician that understand that government is for the people and by the people. There are to serve the nation and not to be served.

I too really 100% want him to be back as the Minister of Higher Education.

yes, the unis have much happier time with him where frequent dialogues with industries are the norm. And he never forget to invite student into those dialogues and given everybody ample chance to speak.

May be some are not happy as he might schedule meeting to start at 9pm...

Wow, that certainly sounds like some of the university administrators I've run into at the US -- a lot of these people don't think of themselves as VIPs and don't ask for special treatment.

Nor does here in M'sia. As also in the US there are some who like VVIP treatment (more so when they come here).

Although I will love Tok Pa to head the education minister again I really hope that he can make use of his economic training by being in MITI or Finance Ministry.

But from rumors heard I think there are slim chance for all three scenario to happen.
